US Senator says Trump tariffs drive India closer to China and Russia

A US Senator has warned that former President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Indian goods could backfire, pushing India to strengthen ties with China and Russia. The Senator noted that India, already one of the world’s largest buyers of Russian crude oil, may look for deeper trade partnerships to offset the economic pressure from Washington’s trade restrictions. Analysts suggest such tariffs could harm US-India relations, which have been strategically important in counterbalancing China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. The development highlights the growing diplomatic challenges between New Delhi and Washington.
