Victoria University (VU), Australia, has received formal approval from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a full-fledged independent campus in India. The announcement was made during an official event in New Delhi, where India’s Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, handed over the Letter of Intent to university officials. This marks a significant milestone, positioning VU as an approved Foreign Higher Education Institution with the authority to operate a self-governed campus by 2027.

The planned campus is expected to be located in the Delhi National Capital Region and will offer a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs, tailored to align with India's growing industry and educational demands.

A unique highlight of the new Indian campus will be the implementation of VU’s award-winning Block Model—an innovative teaching method where students study one subject at a time in four-week intensive learning blocks. This immersive approach promotes deeper understanding, better retention, and more engaged learning outcomes.

Monty Singh, VU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global), expressed optimism about the initiative: “VU can progress its strong connections to India – we look forward to working alongside local partners to share knowledge, deliver industry-focused qualifications and make a real contribution to India’s National Education Policy.”

Professor John Germov, VU’s Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, emphasized the educational impact of the Block Model. “We are delighted at the opportunity to share our unique VU Block Model with industry, students and teachers in India. We aim to partner locally to keep the model responsive to industry needs, ensuring our graduates are career-ready.”

New India Abroad will continue to cover the progress of Victoria University's ambitious entry into India’s higher education landscape.
