The Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. Announces Nine New Indian Consular Application Centres Across the U.S.

In a major step to enhance services for the Indian diaspora, the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. has announced the opening of nine new Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) across the United States.

These new centres—located in Boston, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Edison, Los Angeles, Orlando, Raleigh, and San Jose—will officially begin operations on August 1.

With these additions, the total number of ICACs in the U.S. will rise to 17, making consular services more accessible for millions of Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin living in America. These centres are aimed at simplifying and speeding up services such as passport renewal, OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card processing, visa applications, and birth and marriage registrations.

The expansion is part of the Indian government’s broader initiative to strengthen connections with the global Indian community and provide efficient, citizen-friendly services. It also comes in response to the growing demand for quicker and more localized consular assistance in areas with large Indian populations.

The Embassy emphasized that these centres will reduce the need for long-distance travel, waiting times, and processing delays—bringing essential services closer to where people live.

The new centres reflect the Indian government’s commitment to serving its diaspora efficiently and fostering stronger ties with Indian-origin communities abroad.
