LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman Defends Trump’s Role in Olympics Task Force
On Aug. 8, LA28
Chairman Casey Wasserman defended President Donald Trump’s decision to
name himself head of a White House task force for the 2028 Los Angeles
Olympics, calling it a sign of strong federal commitment. Wasserman noted the
precedent of Vice President Al Gore leading the task force for the 1996 Atlanta
Games, describing the move as “business as usual.” The task force will
coordinate security, transportation, and visa processing with 36 federal
agencies to ensure a unified approach. Trump said he aims to deliver a “safe,
seamless and historically successful” Olympics, despite criticism, including a
Los Angeles Times editorial urging the city to withdraw due to his involvement.
Wasserman praised the administration’s consistent engagement and support. Trump
has shown high-profile interest in sports, recently creating a task force for
the 2026 FIFA World Cup and attending major events.
