Cognizant Aims for Guinness World Record with Massive AI Hackathon
IT services giant Cognizant has launched an ambitious
internal initiative called Vibe Coding Week, with over 250,000 employees
registered to participate in a global
generative AI hackathon, aiming to set a Guinness World Record. The event,
which kicked off on July 28, seeks to make AI-powered coding tools accessible
to both technical and non-technical teams across departments like engineering,
HR, sales, and marketing.
Cognizant’s CEO Ravi Kumar S. emphasized the democratization
of AI tools, noting that even employees without deep digital skills can now
leverage advanced technologies. To cater to diverse experience levels,
Cognizant partnered with platforms like GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist,
Windsurf, Cursor, and Lovable.
Participants selected their preferred AI coding tool during
registration and received structured support via an internal hub with tutorials,
workshops, project submission tools, and prompt engineering guides. The
week-long event includes project competitions and innovation recognition,
driving collaboration and creativity.
Beyond the event, Cognizant has created an internal
community to continue AI exploration and development. Impressively, nearly 30%
of code developed in Q2 2025 was AI-assisted. This initiative also complements Bluebolt,
the firm’s innovation platform that has gathered over five lakh ideas, with
more than 80,000 already used in client solutions.
Cognizant’s broader mission includes Synapse, a training
initiative aimed at upskilling one million
people in AI by 2026. Founded in Chennai in 1994 and now headquartered in Teaneck,
New Jersey, Cognizant continues to lead global digital transformation efforts.
