A Flag-Hoisting Ceremony Marked the 79th Independence Day of India at India House in Washington DC – New India Abroad

On August 15, 2025, India House in Washington DC hosted a
grand celebration to mark the 79th
Independence Day of India, bringing together members of the Indian
diaspora, students, and friends of India. The event, covered by New India
Abroad, was a vibrant display of unity, patriotism, and cultural pride.
Ambassador of India to the United States, Vinay Kwatra,
raised the tricolor and addressed the gathering. In his remarks, he highlighted
the key points from the President of India’s Independence Day eve address,
reflecting on the country’s progress, resilience, and aspirations.
The program featured a variety of cultural performances
showcasing the richness of India’s heritage. Children from the Indian diaspora
actively participated, while senior dancers from the Mayor Dance Academy
performed a graceful Odissi recital. Students of the Gandharva School of Music
captivated the audience with a medley of patriotic songs, filling the
atmosphere with pride and nostalgia.
To encourage young talent, winners of a painting and essay
competition organized by the Embassy were recognized during the ceremony. An
exhibition on the history of the tricolor was also displayed, in line with the
government’s “Har
Ghar Tiranga” campaign, emphasizing the importance of India’s national flag
as a unifying symbol.
The Embassy shared highlights of the event on X with the
message: “Celebrating the 79th Independence Day of India. Ambassador Shri Vinay
Kwatra hoisted the tricolour at India House. Members of the Indian diaspora and
friends of India participated in the ceremony.”
