Arizona State University Tempe Campus Celebrates Record Number of Indian Graduates
This spring, Arizona
State University Tempe Campus celebrated a remarkable milestone,
awarding degrees to 1,800 Indian students — one of the largest graduating
cohorts of Indian nationals in the university’s history. As part of ASU’s
record-setting class of over 21,000 graduates, more than 3,000 were international
students, reaffirming India’s status as the leading source of international
enrollment at the university. Currently, around 7,000 Indian students are
pursuing their academic journeys at ASU, the majority enrolled in
graduate-level programs.
Among the standout graduates was Omkaar Shenoy from Kerala, a computer
science student who utilized his programming skills to streamline operations at
ASU’s Office of Media Relations. Shenoy, who earned his degree from the
prestigious Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, will now begin his
professional journey with Aramark in Philadelphia. “ASU was very helpful in
terms of giving me the resources to find this job,” Shenoy remarked. “It gave
me a solid foundation in coding and media sciences, helping me explore both
technical and creative fields.”
Another graduate, Ana Girish, completed her degree in aerospace
engineering with a specialization in astronautics. She has been recruited by
Solestial, an Arizona-based startup focused on developing solar panels for
space technology.
ASU President Michael Crow, who recently visited India, expressed strong
optimism about the growing academic exchange between India and the United
States. “ASU is deeply committed to students from India,” said Crow. “We are
expecting more students from India than ever and are prepared to support their
success.”
In recognition of its diverse student community, Arizona
State University Tempe Campus hosted an International Student
Celebration on May 10, ahead of its formal graduation events. With over 20,000
Indian alumni globally, ASU continues to strengthen its ties with India through
academic excellence and cultural inclusion.
For Indian students aspiring to study abroad, ASU stands as a beacon of
opportunity, growth, and innovation.
New India Abroad will continue to
spotlight such stories of academic success and international collaboration.
